I love setting up Still Life's to paint, especially ones with a lot of bright, vivid color, high contrast and wonderful shadows!

This painting is what I call, an allegorical still life.

There is a lot of background story here, this painting was started over 3 times!  The first two attempts, over half way through, were ruined, due to two separate circumstances.  I was determined to do this painting, so once again, I retrieved my drawing on Vellum (I always start on a piece of Vellum and then transfer the drawing to the Watercolor Paper), transferred the drawing and began again.

Let me tell you, once I could see the finish line - there were a lot of anxious moments - as the background of the entire painting, is the white of the Watercolor Paper!  I was so afraid I would drip or spill on it - so I made sure to cover areas as I progressed.

I was really pleased with it - and I am so honored that I won a placement in the book Splash - a tough competition and a lifelong dream.  A dream that came true with this painting.
