This past summer, Del and I traveled twice up to the Keewanaw Peninsula in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. My family history has a place there, as my Great Great Grandfather with his family, emigrated from Quebec to work the Copper Mines in Calumet, Michigan during the Copper Boom.
It was in this place that my Grandfather, mon Pepe' was born. Not only were these visits an historical, ancestral journey for me, but it was also a journey of discovery of the endless beauty in this part of our State.
As well as being an avid Collector of Sea Shells, I also have a love of Rocks, that began a long time ago.
This area is well known for the beautiful "Lake Superior Agates" that can be found along the lakeshore, and the lakeshore is also well known for it's beautiful "Pictured Rocks", a National State Park.
This Collage is a little collection of my internal imagery of being there. I actually worked on it, as we were traveling back downstate - with my Watercolor Block, my travel Watercolors, Collage papers and Pebeo materials.
It is a representation of the Colors of the Lakeshore, The Colors and Patterns of the Agates, the Waterfalls that are plentiful up there and part of my family History, with the addition of the script.
It is a small piece, but a strong one, and the colors work really well together.
